Stamford & District Local History Society presents
The Christine Mahany Memorial Lecture “Castles Construction, Conquest & Compensation” by Dr David Roffe MA, PhD, FRHistS, FSA
This talk by Dr David Roffe commemorates the work of Christine Mahany who was the director of Stamford Archaeological Research Committee for many years.

Dr Roffe collaborated with Miss Mahany on the important excavation of Stamford Castle from 1972 - 1976 as well as on other archaeological projects in the area. His talk explores the role that her work played in a radical reassessment of the castle as an instrument of conquest in England.
